International achiever Thunlai Narzary has her eyes set on Asian Games & Olympics

KOKRAJHAR: International shot put player Thunlai Narzary of Kokrajhar, who has brought several gold medals in the international event, has set her eyes to play Asian Games and Olympics.

The athlete who had represented the country in international competitions now spending miserable life due to the ongoing Corona Virus pandemic. Promising and an emerging talent in shot put Thunlai Narzary hailed from Gelaguri village under Dotma block and had participated in the various international events in China, Kyrgisthan and others. She bagged gold medal in an international event held in Jharkhand and bought laurels to entire nation and Assam in general and BTC in particular.

It is mentioning fact that she won gold medal in the World Police Fire Games which was held in China and Kyrgistan in consecutive years. By achieving bundle of medals in her name, her talent is not widely appreciated by the centre and the state Governments. For her sole endeavor in 2015, she has been absorbed as constable in 20 IR(BN).

Narzary, who has record of throwing 4 kg weight to 15 metres, said that she was supposed to take part in the National camp in Punjab but due to pandemic situation all players had gone to their respective states and she has also returned on June 5 and stayed quarantine centre in Guwahati but discharged after found negative report and presently at home quarantine in Kokrajhar. She also said she could not practice due to the incessant rains and COVID -19 situations, and so she used to spend time with family members and plantation of paddy at their agriculture field. She said their family had only 3 bighas of agriculture land and the family members have to depend on the crops. She also expressed that their land was eroded due to flood and they demanded compensation to the department concerned and government of Assam but received poor response.

She revealed that one Pallabi Das who also an international athlete has been promoted to Havilder rank after assuming her duty as constable but in case of her no such opportunity has been initiated. Amidst lock down when she came to her house she saw the atmosphere of adversely affected farm land by Longa River.

"As my family is very much dependable on the farming land the erosion and washing away of farm lands has added the possible hardship for the entire family. So, I appeal the concerned authority to give attention to our prayer", she said adding that after the winning of gold medals from the World Police & Fire Games held at Chengdu in China in 2019, she met the former DGP Kuludhar Saikia for her service promotion and he assured that her service will be promoted but instead of that one Pallabi Das has got the chance.

Narzary, a gold medallist in shot put at the 1st North East Olympic Games held in Manipur in 2018, was selected for All India Police Meet competition held at Delhi where she won the gold medal in 2019 and again got selected for the World Police & Fire Games held at Chengdu in China. She started her training from the Sports Ministry, Sports Authority of India (SAI) complex Khantalguri in Kokrajhar.
