Jhagaru Gour Memorial Football Tournament Concludes

Altogether 16 leading football teams took part in the tournament which was organized under the aegis of Adhunik India Foundation, a non-governmental organization.

TEZPUR: The first annual football tournament in memory of freedom fighter Jhagru Gaur which got underway on August 9 at Monujuli Gupsor ground at Dhekiajuli on the occasion of the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples, concluded on Sunday.

Altogether 16 leading football teams took part in the tournament which was organized under the aegis of Adhunik India Foundation, a non-governmental organization. The final match of the tournament was held between Hugrajuli Tea Estate and Manmohinipur Tea Estate with Hugrajuli Tea Estate emerging as champions after winning by 4-3 in penalty shoot-out.

ITBP Commandant Dr. Deepak Kumar Pandey presented the trophy and a cheque of Rs 20,000 to the winning team, while Additional DC, Sonitpur, Raj Boruah handed over the trophy and a cheque worth Rs 14,001 to the runners-up. Deputy Superintendent of Police, Sonitpur, Luit Talukdar awarded the gold medals to the winning team and President of Adhunik India Foundation DK Chouhan distributed the silver medals among the members of the runners-up team.

Commandant, SSB, Umesh Thapaliyal, Deputy Commandant (Staff ), SSB, Dr. Ajit Hemrom and several distinguished guests were also present on the occasion.
