Kalyani: I-League leaders Mohun Bagan were held to a 1-1 draw by defending Champions Chennai City at the Kalyani Municipality Stadium on Thursday.
Papa Babacar Diawara continued his blistering form in front of goal, finding the back of the net for the eighth game on the trot. His strike broke the deadlock at the stroke of half-time but Katsumi Yusa came back to haunt his former club, netting the equalizer for Chennai in the second half and deservingly walked away with the Hero of the Match award.
Bagan gaffer Kibu Vicuna made three alterations. Gurjinder Kumar and Ashutosh Mehta were called upon, while Shilton D'Silva made a rare start in midfield.
Bagan could have won it at the death, but Nauset Santana made an outstanding save to parry a Diawara header in the 86th minute, showcasing exactly why Coach Vicuna hailed the Spaniard as the best goalkeeper in the I-League before the game.
With the result, Mohun Bagan remains top with 36 points, while Chennai stays seventh with 20 points. IANS
