37th National Games: Kalaripayattu gives four medals to Assam

GUWAHATI: Assam won six medals, four in the Kalaripayattu discipline, in the 37th National Games in Goa today. With these six medals Assam took their medal tally to 48 which included 10 gold, 16 silver and 22 bronze.

Kalaripayattu is an Indian martial art that originated in Kerala and was recently included in the National Games. The four medals that Assam collected in this discipline today included two silvers and two bronzes. Meanwhile in the women’s boxing Pwilao and Kampi won bronze medals as both the boxers today ended their campaign losing into the semi finals. Ankushita Boro however continued her good form and stormed into the final in women 66kg defeating Sanju of Nagaland 5-0. Assam today also ensured two medals in the Lawn Bowls.

Results-Kalaripayattu: Men-Sword and sword category (silver): Arup Medhi and Dhindai Koch. Women (Silver)-Ruma Kaita and Prastuti Bora. Men-Meippayattu (Bronze): Fenswk Koch. Women (bronze): Urbasree Swargiary.

Lawn bowls: Nayanmoni Saikia and Bongita stormed into the final in women’s doubles defeating Jharkhand 20-7 in the semi final. Assam ensured two more medals today by entering semi finals in men fours and women triple respectively.
