GUWAHATI: After successfully hosting the first game of ODI series between India and Sri Lanka on Tuesday at the ACA Stadium Assam Cricket Association felt that the venue had now a very bright chance to get a match of the next ODI World Cup. India will host the mega event in the later part of the year.

Addressing a media gathering the president of the Assam Cricket Association Taranga Gogoi said, "From wicket to ground, security, lighting system, crowd management-everything were perfect and we didn't face any trouble. Nearly 700 runs were produced in the game which proved that the wicket was very good and both the teams even admitted it. So we are optimistic that the BCCI will now consider us as one of the venue for the next ODI World Cup which India will host."

Gogoi today also admitted that the city had a good chance to host a couple of games in the forthcoming IPL. "We are in a discussion with Rajasthan Royals and they are interested to bring a couple of their home matches to Guwahati. However, the final decision is yet to be taken," said the president.

Meanwhile, the BCCI will introduce women's IPL from this season and the auction of the players will be held soon. Gogoi said that several women cricketers from Assam registered their name for auction.

The media briefing was also attended by the joint secretary and the treasurer of the Assam Cricket Association Ranjendra Singh and Chiranjit Langthsa respectively.
