GUWAHATI: The ad-hoc committee of the Assam Olympic Association (AOA) met different State and District Sports Associations at the Deshbhakta Tarun Ram Phukan Indoor Stadium here on Saturday. After the meeting, ad-hoc committee chairman SM Bali, who is also the joint secretary of the Indian Olympic Association, spoke to The Sentinel and shared some of the key decisions taken at the meeting. Here is the excerpt.
The Sentinel (TS): How was the meeting?
Bali: It was nice. We’ve had it in a very cordial atmosphere.
TS: Have all the three members of ad-hoc committee attended the meeting?
Bali: Yes. All three of us were present at the meeting, besides representatives of different State and District Sports Associations.
TS: Has the date for the proposed AGM of the Assam Olympic Association been finalized?
Bali: No. We need to do some groundwork before finalizing the date. Today’s meeting was the part of the spadework.
TS: What are the major decisions taken at the meeting?
Bali: We need to know the State associations which are eligible to send their representatives to the forthcoming AGM of the Assam Olympic Association. So we’ve asked all the State associations to submit their necessary documents in this regard to the IOA through their respective federations. The district associations too have to follow the same procedure. After different national federations approve the lists of their state associations we will collect it from the IOA and the next course of action will be taken thereafter.
TS: Have you set any date for the submission of documents to the different state associations?
Bali: Yes. It should be done before August 25 and we want to get the lists from the IOA immediately. If the AGM of any state association is due they should complete it before this period.
TS: There is an allegation that the size of the committee of the Assam Olympic Association is huge and the number of the members should be reduced. Your opinion?
Bali: Look, an ad-hoc committee has no right to change the constitution of the Assam Olympic Association. We will follow the existing constitution of the Assam Olympic Association. Once the new committee is formed, and if they want they can make amendment to the constitution.
