Afghanistan shock Sri Lanka in warm-up tie at the ACA Stadium

Opener Gurbaz and Shah joined on the wicket after Afghanistan lost the other opener Zadran (7) on team’s total 19 and the innings was just 6.4 overs old.

GUWAHATI: Rode on two terrific knocks from R Gurbaz (119) and R Shah (93), Afghanistan finished their warm-up for the forthcoming ICC World Cup with a 6-wicket win against Sri Lanka at the ACA Stadium here today. Chasing revised target 257 in 42 overs, due to rain disturbance, Afghanistan touched the victory rope losing 4 wickets with 23 balls to spare.

Opener Gurbaz and Shah joined on the wicket after Afghanistan lost the other opener Zadran (7) on team’s total 19 and the innings was just 6.4 overs old. On the second wicket Gurbaz and Shah added 212 runs and during this process Gurbaz scored century. He took just 92 balls to score 119 runs with the help of eight boundaries and nine over boundaries. Shah got out on his individual score 93 (82 balls, 4X10, 6X3).

Earlier invited to bat in the rain interrupted game, Sri Lanka were bowled out 294 in 46. 2 overs. K Mendis played a captain’s knock of 158 runs from 87 balls and he decorated his innings with 19 boundaries and nine over boundaries. For Afghanistan M Nabi bagged 4-44.

Sri Lanka will now fly to New Delhi where they will start their World Cup campaign on October 7 against South Africa. Afghanistan will face Bangladesh in their opening game on the same day in Dharamsala.
