Around 3500 participants to run in Coal India Guwahati Half Marathon in Guwahati city

Inaugural edition of the Coal India Guwahati Half Marathon will be held in the city on December 3. Nearly 3500 participants are expected to take part in the competition

GUWAHATI: Inaugural edition of the Coal India Guwahati Half Marathon will be held in the city on December 3. Nearly 3500 participants are expected to take part in the competition which will be held in three different categories-Guwahati Half Marathon, Guwahati 5k and Open 10k.

The route map of the competition was unveiled today at the Sarusajai Sports Complex. The event was attended by Director of the Sports and Youth Welfare Prodip Timung, ADC, Kamrup Dr Dhrubajyoti Hazarika, Senior Medical and Health Officer in Joint Director Health Office Dr Farhan Ali and Commander 107, Mountain Brigade, Brigadier Akshay Kapoor.

Among the three level competitions the half marathon will be the longest one. It will start from the Sarusajai Sports Complex and runners will return to the same spot after running through Hatigaon, Super Market, Secretariat, Ganeshguri and returning by taking a U turn near Christianbasti.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will inaugurate the competition in the morning on December 3 and Sports Minister Nandita Gorlosa will also attend the event.

Timung informed the media that elaborate arrangements were made to conclude the race successfully.

Medical staff and ambulances will be deployed at various points so that the athletes can receive immediate medical help if it is required during the race.

The total prize money of the competition is Rs 10 lakh and the winner in the Half Marathon will collect Rs 32,000.
