ASJA inaugurated the ASJA Sports Library-cum-Information Centre

The Assam Sports Journalists’ Association inaugurated the ASJA Sports Library-cum-Information Centre, the first ever such facility in Assam, at the ASJA Office premises in the city on Sunday.

GUWAHATI: The Assam Sports Journalists' Association inaugurated the ASJA Sports Library-cum-Information Centre, the first ever such facility in Assam, at the ASJA Office premises in the city on Sunday.

Assam Information Commissioner Samudra Gupta Kashyap inaugurated the library in presence of Sports Journalists Federation of India and ASJA president Subodh Malla Barua, veteran journalist Pabitra Gogoi, senior journalist Partha Hazarika, former ASJA secretary Jugal Saikia and a host of ASJA well wishers such as veteran sports personality Kalyan Das, Rajib Prakash Baruah, Bishnuram Nunisa, Chaya Ram Boro, Khanin Dutta, Biswajit Kakoti and others.

The library, which is a treasure house of sports literature of Assam, has been set up with contributions from ASJA members as well as its well wishers.

Speaking on the occasion, chief guest Samudra Gupta Kashyap congratulated the ASJA for taking the initiative to preserve sports literature of the state and hoped it will benefit the future generations a lot. Jugal Saikia and Partha Hazarika also praised the ASJA for taking such a noble initiative and appealed to all sections of the society to contribute to the library from their collections of sports literature.

Marking the occasion, a book, 'Playing With My Pen', authored by former ASJA President Pabitra Gogoi, was released in the same ceremony. State Information Commissioner Samudra Gupta Kashyap released the book.

Congratulating Gogoi, Kashyap and other dignitaries urged him to keep writing more books to enlighten the future generations about the legacy of sports and sports journalism in Assam.
