ASJA to celebrate 100 years of sports journalism in Assam

The Assam Sports Journalists Association (ASJA) has decided to celebrate the occasion with a yearlong programme which will kick off on July 2.

Guwahati: Sports journalism will step into its 100th year of existence in Assam on July 1. The Assam Sports Journalists Association (ASJA) has decided to celebrate the occasion with a yearlong programme which will kick off on July 2.

It was on July 1, 1923 that the first ever sports news on football match from Sivasagar was published in the newspaper named 'Asomiya' a weekly magazine published by Chandra Kumar Agarwalla. It marked a new era of news publication in the state of Assam and sports news has since been published in all the print, electronic and digital media and telecast from Assam. The day is regarded as a milestone of Assam's sports journalism.
