Assam add 3 more medals in National Games, Shivangi wins Gold

GUWAHATI: Assam collected three more medals in the 36th National Games in Gujarat today. Among the three medals one is gold and other two are silvers.

The lone gold medal was won by Shivangi Sarma in the women's 100m freestyle. The swimmer clocked 58.77 sec to clinch the gold medal and during this process she also defeated Maana Patel (wins silver) who represented India in the Tokyo Olympics. It was the second medal for Shivangi in this Games. She earlier bagged a bronze medal in the women's 50m freestyle.

It may be mentioned here that the state swimming contingent displayed a good show in the National Games and altogether collected six medals that included two gold, three silver and one bronze. The other gold medal was won by Astha Chouhdury (also won a silver) and Bikram Changmai bagged two silvers in the swimming event.

Meanwhile, promising cyclist Chayanika Gogoi today collected a silver in the Women 85km Road Race. Manipur's Tongbram Monorama Devi, who was a part of the Indian team in the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, defeated Chayanika Gogoi and Pooja Baban Danole (Maharashtra) to win the Women 85km Road Race on a cloudy morning. It was the second medal for Chayanika in the Games. Earlier she won a silver in the women Scratch Race (10km).

The third medal of the day, a silver, came in Wushu which was collected by Sanma Brahma in Taolu (men) event.

In women football Assam lost their semi final tie to Manipur by 0-5.
