Assam add nine more medals in tally

GUWAHATI: Assam collected nine more medals and took their overall medal tally to 39 in the 37th National Games in Goa today. Among the 39 medals, 9 are gold, 12 are silver and the remaining 18 are bronze. Nine medals that Assam won on Saturday came in archery, lawn bowls, swimming and wushu events. Out of nine medals four were gold, four were silver and a bronze.

Archery: In the Indian round Tutumoni Boro won gold in women ‘s singles event of the Indian round. She beat Manipur archer M Devi 6-2 in the final. Men’s team represented by Arun Boro, Manoranjan Boro, Ritumoni Swargiyari and Rajesh Narzary beat Assam in the final to collect the gold medal in the men’s team event. Women team, composed of Tutumoni Boro, Pallavi Das, Binamoni Rava and Pallavi Boro, however lost the final to Manipur and had to be satisfied with a silver. Tutumoni Boro and Arun Boro, who represented Assam in the mixed team event, also won a silver medal losing the final contest.

Swimming: Shivangi Sarma collected her third medal, a silver, in this edition of the Games and this time in women’s 100m freestyle. She clocked 58.07 to finish second in the meet.

Wushu: Sanma Brahma gave a silver medal to Assam on Friday.

Lawn bowls: Assam bagged gold medal in men triple and women fours categories. The four players represented in Assam women fours team were Tania Choudhury, Bongita Hazarika, Ananya Saikia and Abinita Kakati. On the other hand Biswajit Khound, Dipankar Sarma and Putul Sonowal picked up gold medals in the Men’s triple. Meanwhile, Commonwealth Games gold medallist Nayanmoni Saikia today picked up a bronze medal in the women’s singles. It was the fourth consecutive occasion when Nayanmoni won a medal from the National Games.
