GUWAHATI: The Assam Athletics Association (AAA) today felicitated athlete Amlan Borgohain for his record breaking performance in the Federation Cup held at Kozikode recently. The Assam athlete broke the record of Olympian Muhammed Anas in men's 200mts clocking 20.52 sec.

The brief function was held at the Indira Gandhi Athletic stadium which was attended by the president and secretary of the Assam Athletics Association Lakhya Konwar and Ashoke Bharali respectively along with the director of the Sports and Youth Welfare Department Nibedan Das Patowary, treasurer and vice president of the Assam Olympic Association Tapan Das and Kalyan Gogoi. Amlan was felicitated with a gamocha, Xarai and Xapi.

Addressing the gathering Amlan said, " I am working to improve my timing under the supervision of my coach in Reliance Foundation. I will soon go abroad to participate in a couple of international meets."

The president of the Assam Athletics Association Lakhya Konwar congratulating Amlan said, "Assam Athletics Association will always behind him and will extend all possible support whenever he required." Lakhya, who is also the secretary of the Assam Olympic Association (AOA), today announced to provide financial aid to the athlete from AOA for his preparation for the forthcoming Asian Games. AOA will also take the initiative so that the athlete gets the financial support from the State government as per the sports policy for his training.
