Assam back on track in Ranji Trophy tie at Cuttack

Guwahati: Assam made a good comeback in the second innings but it may not enough to snatch victory against Odisha in the Ranji Trophy tie at Cuttack today.

In reply to Odisha’s first innings total of 436, Assam were bowled out for 238 runs in the first innings and were forced to follow on. Later, the visitors finished day III scoring 102-0 in their second innings. Opener Kunal Saikia remained not out on 62 and he was given company by Subham Mondal (42). It was the second half century for Kunal in the match and both came on Wednesday.

Earlier, Odisha took 82.2 overs to bowl out Assam for 238 in their first innings. Assam were 59-3 at stumps on day two. Kunal Saikia (52) and Ranjeet Mali (59) scored half centuries which made the total a little respectable. Riyan Parag (43) and Rishav Das (37) were the other major contributors. Ranjeet, came into bat at number nine position, took 68 balls to score 59 with the help of 11 boundaries and one six. Kunal faced 78 balls and there were eight boundaries in his knock. The duo added 58 runs, highest in the innings, for the eighth wicket.
