GUWAHATI: Promising chess player from Assam Sahil Dey took a giant step to become the first Grandmaster from the Northeast. He achieved his first Grandmaster norm in the Cattolica Chess Festival which concluded in Italy yesterday. Sahil scored a creditable 6.5 from 9 rounds and got the third position in the competition. He now needed two more Grandmaster norms and minimum rating points 2500 to become a Grandmaster.
