Assam Cricket Association mourns death of sports organizer Khagendra Prasad Deka

Assam Cricket Association’s president Romen Dutta and secretary Devajit Saikia had mourned the demise of the eminent educationist, sports organiser and social worker Khagendra Prasad Deka who breathed his last in a city nursing home yesterday due to post-Covid complications.

GUWAHATI: Assam Cricket Association's president Romen Dutta and secretary Devajit Saikia had mourned the demise of the eminent educationist, sports organiser and social worker Khagendra Prasad Deka who breathed his last in a city nursing home yesterday due to post-Covid complications. He was 89 years old and is survived by his two sons and a daughter.

A native of Biswanath Chariali, who was now residing at Panjabari in the city, Deka was the president of Biswanath Chariali Sports Association - now known as Biswanath District Sports Association - from 1973-74 and 1976-79 respectively, besides serving as its general secretary from 1970-73. A professor in Economics, he was also the Principal of the Goalpara College from 1983-1996, as well as the Principal of the Biswanath College.

ACA in a release said, "Deka's demise comes as an irreparable loss to Assam as it creates a void in its socio-cultural, educational and sports landscape."
