Assam ended their campaign in the Vijay Hazare Cricket this season with 182 runs victory over Mizoram in Chennai today.

GUWAHATI: Assam ended their campaign in the Vijay Hazare Cricket this season with 182 runs victory over Mizoram in Chennai today. It was the fifth consecutive victories for Assam in the championship and through this win the side promoted to elite group in next season.

However Uttarakhand, who also registered five victories in the meet, qualified to the next round from this group because of better net run rate. Both Assam and Uttarakhand collected 20 points each from their five outings.

Invited to bat, Assam today piled up huge 342/8 in their stipulated 50 overs.

Two young batsmen - opener Denish Das and Saahil Jain – today once again played two splendid knocks and helped the side to post a huge total on the board. Denish contributed 94 balls 85 with the help of 12 boundaries and Saahil played a quick knock of 86 runs from 47 balls. There were nine boundaries and four sixes in his innings. Sib Sankar Roy (56, 62 balls, 4X6) also contributed a half century in the game.

Mizoram never looked a threat for Assam in the run chase and entire team were bowled out 160 in 43.5 overs. Mukkhtar Hussain took four wickets while Denish Das and Gokul Sharma, who took retirement from limited overs and T20 cricket after this game, claimed three wickets each.
