Assam lose to Gujarat in Vijay Hazare Cricket at Chandigarh

Gujarat defeated Assam by 36 runs in the Vijay Hazare Cricket held at Chandigarh today. Chasing 321 runs to win Assam were bowled out 284 in 47.1 overs.

GUWAHATI: Gujarat defeated Assam by 36 runs in the Vijay Hazare Cricket held at Chandigarh today. Chasing 321 runs to win Assam were bowled out 284 in 47.1 overs. Opener Denish Das (54) was the top scorer in Assam innings.

Gujarat, won the toss this morning, elected to bat first. Saurav Chauhan (108 no, 82 balls, 4X11, 6X4) scored century and Chirag Gandhi (74, 42 balls, 4X9, 6X2) scored half centuries. The fifth-wicket partnership between them produced 138 runs and it helped Gujarat to put 320-8 on the board in their 50 overs. Mrinmoy Dutta (2-62) and Akash Sengupta (2-79) were the best performers for Assam with the ball.

Although the Assam middle order tried to put up resistance during the run chase, Gujarat didn’t allow them to build big partnerships by taking wickets on regular intervals. Opener Denish Das scored 54 with the help of 11 boundaries and one six. Sumit Gadhigaonkar (49), Sibsankar Roy (42) and Riyan Parag (32) were the other major contributors in Assam innings. Piyush Chawla bagged 3-48 and Kathan Paatel took 2-32.

In their next game Assam will face Andhra on November 27.
