Assam Olympic Association (AOA) felicitate state- athlete Amlan Borgohain and archer Bishal Changmai

Two upcoming players of the state- athlete Amlan Borgohain and archer Bishal Changmai -were felicitated by the Assam Olympic Association (AOA) on Sunday for their medal winning performance in national and international meets.

GUWAHATI: Two upcoming players of the state- athlete Amlan Borgohain and archer Bishal Changmai -were felicitated by the Assam Olympic Association (AOA) on Sunday for their medal winning performance in national and international meets.

The felicitation function was held at the Assam Olympic Association Conference Hall and Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Bimal Borah attended it as the chief guest.

Bishal won a bronze medal in the individual section and gold medals in team and mixed category in the World Youth Archery Championship held in Poland recently. Amlan bagged a silver medal in 100m and a gold in 200mts with a meet record during 60th National Open Athletics Championship held in Telengana last month.

Addressing the gathering Sports Minister Borah thanked the State and District Sports Associations for encouraging the players. He also added: "Government is developing new sports infrastructure in different parts of the state. It will help the young athletes to train properly."

Both Bishal and Amlan also spoke a few words in the function. Sharing his experience at the World Youth Archery Championship Bishal said, "The environment was difficult to handle in Poland but I managed to adjust. It was really a thrilling moment for me when the Indian National anthem was played during the medal ceremony."

On the other hand, Amlan said that he started his preparation two months before the National Open Athletics Championship and was optimistic about winning a medal in the meet. Now his goal is to bag a medal from the International meets.

The function was also attended by the secretary of the Assam Olympic Association Lakhya Konwar, vice presidents Ritubaran Sharma, Kalyan Gogoi, Anup Choudhury, secretary general of Boxing Federation of India Hemanta Kalita, former MLA and president of Hojai District Sports Association Shiladitya Dev and Director SAI (NE Region) Satish K Sarhadi.
