Assam Olympic Association urges Job for National Medal Winners

The Assam Olympic Association (AOA) today urged the State Government to create job opportunity to the State athletes who will win medal in National Level Championship.

GUWAHATI: The Assam Olympic Association (AOA) today urged the State Government to create job opportunity to the State athletes who will win medal in National Level Championship. They also appealed to the Government to produce coaches for grass root level athletes under Assam Skill Development Mission.

In an interaction with the media today the secretary of the Assam Olympic Association Lakhya Konwar said, "We thanks State Government to take steps to provide pension and job for the medal winners in Olympic, Asian Games, National Games and other major international events. However medal winners in national championship are not entitled to get this facility. We urge State Government to include them. It will be nice if at least the athletes of priority Games of the State are included in this scheme in initial stage.'

Konwar, during his interaction, also gave importance to increase the number coaches in grass root level of various games. "Athletes in their early stage don't require highly knowledgeable coaches. It is the time to learn the basic of the game in proper way. We request the State Government to arrange programme through Assam Skill Development Mission to produce coaches for our grass root level players," said Konwar.
