Assam thrash Rajasthan 5-0 in Santosh Trophy Football Championship and registered fourth consecutive victories

GUWAHATI: Assam continued their good show in the Santosh Trophy Football Championship and registered fourth consecutive victories at Kokrajhar today. The hosts, displaying a solid performance, defeated Rajasthan by 5-0 and collected three points.

Assam now needed just a single point in their final game against Himachal Pradesh on October 17 to qualify for the next round of the competition which is scheduled to be held at Arunachal Pradesh.

Assam made a good start in the game and needed just 13 minutes to score the first goal through Milan Basumatary. The second goal of the match came six minutes later and this time Dipu Mirdha hit the target. He also scored the team’s third goal in the 24th minute. Last two goals came in the second half and both were scored by Akrang Narzary in 60 and 68 minutes respectively.

After the end of the fourth round, Assam now remained on top of the points table in group ‘D’ with 12 points. Railways are at the second spot with 9 points from their four outings.

Meanwhile, in the other two games, held at the same venue on Sunday, Railways defeated Himachal Pradesh 4-1 and Chandigarh won against Bihar 2-0.
