Astha Choudhury wins Gold with new meet record in Senior National Aquatic Championship

Assam swimmers dominated in the pool of Zakir Hussain Aquatic Complex and picked up three medals including one gold

GUWAHATI: Assam swimmers dominated in the pool of Zakir Hussain Aquatic Complex and picked up three medals including one gold in the 75th Senior National Aquatic Championship here today. While the gold was won by Astha Choudhury with a new meet record, the other two medals, both silver, were collected by Shivangi Sarma and Bikram Changmai respectively.

After today's performance Assam elevated to seventh position in the medal tally with one gold, 4 silver and 2 bronze.

Promising swimmer Astha today displayed a solid show in the women 100mtr Butterfly. She clocked 1:03.07 to take the crown and left behind the 2009 record of 1:03.24 by Arhatha Meghavi of Karnataka. Tanishi Gupta (Karnataka) and Divya Satija (Haryana) took silver and bronze.

Shivangi today won silver in the women's 200m freestyle clocking 2:09.50. Dhinidhi Desinghu (Karnataka, 2:09.29) and Rujula S (2: 10.62) also from Karnataka collected gold and bronze.

Bikram's silver medal came in the men's 100m butterfly with the timing of 55.35. Harsh Saroha of Haryana (55.17) bagged gold and Sambhavv R from Karnataka (55.69) collected bronze.

Meanwhile the competition today witnessed another meet record. Olympian Manna Patel from Gujarat bettered her own record in women's 50m backstroke. Maana, timed 29.79 to better her 2016 record by 0.10 seconds and won the gold in the meet today. Sagnika Roy of Bengal and Pratishtha Dangi from Maharashtra took silver and bronze respectively.

After the end of the fourth day Karnataka are now top of the medal tally with 12 gold, 4 silver and 8 bronze. SSCB are in the second spot with 10 medals (5-3-2). Delhi are in third place with four medals and all of those are gold.
