GUWAHATI: Two terrific knocks in the lower order followed by disciplined bowling guided Barak Bravehearts to lift the first Assam T20 Challengers Cricket title defeating Brahmaputa Boys by 22 runs in the final held at the Judges Field here today.

Rajjakuddin of the winning team was named man of the match for his quick 22 balls 34 runs knock.

It was Brahmaputra Boys who started the day with a very positive note. Their frontline bowlers Kunal Sarma and Krishna Das created a lot of trouble for the opponent batsmen during the early stage of the game and they were also successful in picking up wickets on regular intervals.

However, the scenario started to change once Rajjakuddin came into the centre stage. He got good support from young all rounder Akash Sengupta.

Invited to bat, Brak Bravehearts scored 145-7 in their 20 overs and nearly 45 percent of those runs came from the bat of Rajjakuddin and Akash. Rajjakuddin hit one boundary and three sixes in his 32 runs knock while Akash faced just 13 balls to score 29 runs with the help of three over boundaries. Kunal Sarma bagged 4-22 while Krishna Das collected 3-17.

Brahmaputra Boys failed to make a good start in their run chase as two of the batsmen threw their wicket in the form of run out and stumping. Thereafter Barak Bravehearts completely took control with consistent accurate bowling. Captain Rishav Das tried to take the fight to the opponent camp but his 30 balls 38 was not enough for his team. Bishal Roy (26, 4X2) was the other major contributor for Brahmaputra. Roshan Alam, the most successful bowler for Barak, picked up 3-30.

The award function was attended by Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs Ashok Singhal as the chief guest along with president and secretary of the Assam Cricket Association Romen Dutta and Debajit Saikia respectively.

Individual award: Best batsman-Denish Das. Best bowler-Roshan Alam. Best wicket keeper-Wasiqur Rahman. Man of the tournament: Kunal Sarma.
