GUWAHATI: The 66th Bordoloi trophy Football Championship will kick off at the Nehru stadium on September 20. Altogether eight teams will participate in this edition of the tournament.
Disclosing the news in a media conference the President of the Gauhati Sports Association Munin Nabis said,“This year there will be no big teams in the championship. Among the eight teams seven are from the state and they will be joined by Assam Regimental Centre of Shillong.”
Nobis also added: The league phase of the competition will be held in two venues-Nehru stadium and Sonapur. Mini Stadium. However both the semi finals and final will be held at the Nehru stadium.
As per the schedule Gauhati Town club will face Super Division League champion ASEBSC in the opening game on September 20. The match will kick off at 5-30 in the evening. GSA will organize opening ceremony prior to this match which will begin at 4-00 PM. The remaining matches of the league phase will begin from 3-00 PM.
There will be separate inaugural function at Sonapur and it will be held on September 21.
The media briefing was also attended by three GSA officials- Dhruba Jyoti Kalita (General Secretary), Bhola Boro (Vice President) and L Pranab Singh (Football Secretary)
