SARUPATHAR: Boxer Lovlina Borgohain on Tuesday arrived back home to a grand welcome after winning a bronze medal at the recently concluded Tokyo Olympics.
Upon arriving at her native village in Barpathar's Baromukhia under Golaghat district, Lovlina was swamped by supporters and they played dhol and pepa to give a thunderous response to the 23-years-old historic feat back in Tokyo.
A huge pandal has been erected for the welcome and felicitation ceremony. Banners, hoardings and billboards with Lovlina's photographs have been seen everywhere. Meanwhile, Sarupathar MLA Biswajit Phukan and the Golaghat district administration have welcomed her at the Dimapur airport at around 2.10 pm about 60 km from her hometown, the nearest airport. She was taken in a rally to the Barpathar high school playground from the airport where a felicitation programme is planned by the district administration at 4 pm. Various organizations, including the civilians have also felicitated her at the playground. Later, Lovlina also handed over a cheque of worth Rs 10 Lakh to her first coach Prasanta Das as the state government had earlier announce to pay for the coaches of Lovlina.
Later Lovlina said, she will spend one night at her native place and fly to Lucknow on Wednesday for a felicitation programme by the Uttar Pradesh government. After attending the felicitation programme in Lucknow, she will go to Kolkata for her mother's treatment and then return home on August 25.
Meanwhile, the cabinet ministers of Assam Atul Bora, Ajanta Neog, SP Robin Kumar of Golaghat district, 142 CRPF Sector commander Neeraj Kumar Singh, Biswajit Phukan, MLA of 94-Sarupathar LAC and many more dignitaries were present in the felicitation programme held at Barpathar high school playground.
It is also mentioned that, the felicitation programme was started with the Assam's Jatiya sangeet and concluded with the national anthem.
