GUWAHATI: The Assam Cricket Association (ACA) lodged an FIR against its former secretary Pradip Buragohain for the misuse of crores of ACA funds during his tenure.

Fatasil Ambari Police registered a case (817/2021 u/s 120(B)/406/409/420/469/34 IPC) against Pradip Buragohain. Police sources said that the investigation is going on and they were collecting documentary evidence.

The ACA constituted a five-member accounts verification committee headed by veteran sports organizer Jamshed Khan to scrutinize the accounts earlier to ascertain the allegations of crores of misuse of funds in the account maintained by the former ACA committee. Pradip Buragohain was the secretary of that ACA committee. The accounts verification committee doubted the misuse of crores of ACA funds in the forms of booking hotel rooms, air tickets, food during cricket events, etc.

Based on the accounts verification committee's report, the Assam Cricket Association sought an explanation from Buragohain and asked him to appear before the apex council to clarify his views in last year.

The former secretary appeared before the apex council and clarified his views on the alleged financial anomalies. However, the apex council was not satisfied with Buragohain's reply. The ACA asked him to refund the amount. However, sources said that Buragohain has not complied with the ACA's direction.
