GUWAHATI: Assam boxer Lovlina Borgohain received a huge welcome on her arrival at the Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport here today. The 23-year-old pugilist became so emotional that she couldn't hold her tears.

It was the maiden visit for Lovlina in Guwahati after she won a bronze medal in welterweight category in Tokyo Olympics. Assam Amateur Boxing Association and Sports & Youth WeAssam boxer Lovlina Borgohain received a huge welcome on her arrival at the Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport here today. The 23-year-old pugilist becamfare Department jointly organized a brief function at the airport following all COVID-19 protocols to receive the boxer. However, there was a huge turnout at the airport on boxer's arrival and everyone started to cheer by her name once she was noticed outside the airport.

There was a big surprise for Lovlina when she came out from the flight. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma himself was waiting near the staircase to receive the boxer. Sarma was accompanied by Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Bimal Borah, Information and Public Relation Minister Pijush Hazarika and the officials of the Assam Amateur Boxing Association. Chief Minister handed over a bouquet and a gamocha to the boxer.

There was another round of surprise was waiting for Lovlina when she came out from the airport. All her former teammates including Pwilao Basumatari, Bhagyabati Kachari, Jamuna Boro, Ankushita Boro and former Boxer Kalpana Choudhury were waiting for her on the dais which was made at the airport to felicitate the boxer. She hugged each of them and also talked a few words.

Although it's been a long time since she was away from her home, there was no sign of fatigue in Lovlian's face. Rather she was enjoying every moment of homecoming.

Before her departure from the airport the boxer talked to the media person and during that time she became very emotional. "I know every person from Assam prayed for me when I was playing in Tokyo. I am sorry that I didn't bring gold which was my aim. I promise I will try my best to bring gold medal from the next Olympics which is scheduled to be held in Paris," said Lovlina.

Meanwhile former teammates of Lovlina were very happy to meet the boxer on her arrival. Pwilao Basumatari said the media,"It's really a big moment for us that one of our friend brought medal from Olympics. We are really very happy."
