GUWAHATI: Haryana and Dadra & Nagar Haveli stormed into the semi finals of the Junior (U-17) Women's National Football Championship at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium here today.
Haryana in the day's first quarter final defeated West Bengal by a solitary goal. Dadra & Nagar Haveli beat favourite Kerala 4-0.
The match between Haryana and West Bengal was well contested and both sides created several opportunities to open their account but failed to convert a single one in the first half. However, at the hour mark, West Bengal's resistance was broken. Miscommunication between the backline and the goalkeeper allowed Saniya to take advantage and slot the ball into an empty net. Plenty of half chances came after that as well but neither team could score from it.
Meanwhile in the last quarter final Dadra & Nagar Haveli took the lead in the 27th minute through Muskan. The side increased the margin in the 55th minute and this time Pooja slotted the ball into the net. Later they scored two more goals through Himanshi and Muskan.
Both the semifinals will be held on July 2 at the Indira Gandhi Athletics Stadium. In the first semi final Bihar will face Haryana from 9 AM and in the other last-four tie Arunachal Pradesh will clash against Dadra & Nagar Haveli from 3 PM.
