GUWAHATI: Dibrugarh University thrashed Bhattadev University in the final of the maiden Nilay Dutta Inter-University Cricket Tournament to become the Champion University of Assam.
In the final at Tezpur University Ground on Sunday, Dibrugarh University (DU) won by 45 runs.
Winning the toss, DU scored challenging score of 155 in 20 overs losing 9 wickets. Akhil Kalita 46(35) and Nihar Narah 29(23) were the major contributors. Ranjan Khataniar and Bhargab Lahkar took 2 wickets each. In reply, Bhattadev University were bowled out for 110 in 19.2 overs. Rajdeep Handique claimed 3 wickets for 19 while Biswas Singh took 2 wickets for 4. Gunjanjyoti Deka of DU was adjudged as the Man of the Match while Rupak Jena of Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat, grabbed the Man of the Series award.
A host of dignitaries including Dr. Vinod Kumar Jain, Vice-Chancellor, Tezpur University; Dr. Biju Dutta Chowdhury, wife of Late Nilay Dutta; Abanti Dutta, Romen Dutta, President of Assam Cricket Association attended in the closing ceremony.
