FC Goa march into semis in 132nd edition of the Durand Cup Football semi-final

GUWAHATI: FC Goa marched into the 132nd edition of the Durand Cup Football semi-final defeating Chennaiyin FC 4-1 in the third quarter-final tie held at the Indira Gandhi Athletics Stadium here today.

Carl Mchugh, Carlos Martinez, Noah Sadoui and Victor Rodriguez scored for the winner. Bikash Yumnam was the lone scorer for the losing outfit.

It was Chennaiyin FC which got an early goal when Akash Sangwan’s corner floated high towards the far post headed in by Bikash Yumnam.

Stung by the goal the Gaurs responded with vigor and Carlos Martinez almost equalized soon but hit the bar with a header. They had to wait till the half hour mark to get the score level. Udanta and Brandon played a give and go on the right flank after which the former floated a cross which was headed back in front of the six-yard box by Noah from the far post.8 minutes later it was Carlos who made it 2-1 for FC Goa and the side left the ground with 2-1 lead in the lemon break.

In the second half both sides tried to score but weren’t able to succeed till the 90th Minutes of the game. FC Goa finally scored two more goals in the added time of the game through Noah and Victor.

FC Goa will now face the winner of the fourth quarter finals between Mohun Bagan and Mumbai City FC in the semi finals. The last quarters will be held in Kolkata on Sunday.
