GPC lift TOPCEM-ASJA Inter media cricket title

GUWAHATI: Gauhati Press Club (GPC) lifted the TOPCEM-ASJA Inter Media T20 Cricket title defeating Media Management by 36 runs in the final held at the Judges Field here today. Chasing 172 runs to win Media Management scored 135-8 in their 20 overs. Jagjit Singh remained not out on 68 while Ankur Borthakur picked up three wickets. Earlier Gauhati Press Club posted challenging total (171-4 in 20 overs) on the board courtesy to some fantastic batting from Mriganka Sarma (45), Ranjit Changmai (34) and Dhiraj Hazarika (31).

Mriganka Sarma was adjudged the best player of the competition while Jagjit Singh, Amaresh Sinha (Assam Sports Journalists Association) and Gautam Sarma (Prasar Bharati) collected best batsman, best bowler and best fielder award.

Several former first class cricketers including Rajesh Bora, Zaved Zaman, Parag Das and Subhrajit Saikia attended the closing function along with Anil Kapur, President (Sales & Marketing), Meghalaya Cements, Onkar Kedia (DG of Sports Authority of Assam), Madhuchanda Adhikari, DGM (Corporate Communications), NRL, Swapnanil Barua (former Commissioner and Secretary of Industries and Commerce), President and Secretary of Gauhati Press Club Manoj Nath and Sanjoy Roy respectively, sports organizer Balendra Mohan Chakraborty, Pradip Hazarika (former Deputy Director of S&YW) and veteran player Kalyan Kumar Das.

Champion team received cash award of Rs 20,000 while the runners up team pocketed Rs 10,000. There were cash awards with individual prizes also.
