GPC organizes ‘Run for Pride’; extended warm wishes to the 7 athletes of Assam

GUWAHATI: Gauhati Press Club extended warm wishes to the 7 athletes of Assam who are representing the country at the 19th Asian Games by organizing an event ‘Run for Pride’ this morning.

Former international athlete Tayabun Nisha, who represented India at the New Delhi Asian Games-1982, flagged off the collective running programme. Media persons from different organizations took part in the run which kicked off from the Gauhati Press Club.

Later, a closing ceremony was held where certificates were distributed amongst the participants.

Speaking on this occasion, Nisha, who once broke national record in discuss throw, conveyed her best wishes to all the participants. “I am confident that they all will excel, win laurels and make our country, state proud.”

The Sivasagar-born 70-year-old former athlete praised Gauhati Press Club for organizing such an event. She ex-pressed that such events can play a crucial role in boosting a player's recognition and motivation. It not only boosts the morale of the athletes but also fosters a sense of pride and unity among the participants and spectators.

Expressing how she faced challenges in her career, she added, “Participating in the Asian Games, or any major event, is the result of years of hard work, dedication, and sacrifice. Athletes undergo rigorous training, face chal-lenges, and make many sacrifices in their pursuit of excellence. It's a long and demanding journey that requires not only physical prowess but also mental resilience."

Mentioning the greatness of Sports, Nisha said, “Engaging in Sports can also promote mental well-being by re-ducing stress and improving mood. They teach important life skills. It's not just about physical health; Sports have a positive impact on our overall well-being and contribute to building a healthy future both individually and collec-tively.”

Senior sports journalists Subodh Malla Barua and Pulin Saha were also present in the closing ceremony.

Needless to say, Lovlina Borgohain, Shiva Thapa, Amlan Borgohain, Ashmita Chaliha, A. Priya Devi, Shivangi Sharma and Uma Chetry are participating at the Hangzhou Asian Games.
