Griffon Challenge Cup Women’s Cricket kicks off in Sivasagar

Gaurisagar : All Assam Women’s Invitation Championship for Griffon Challenge Cup, Sivasagar kicked off today in Darbar Field. Sivasagar Superintendent of Police Subhrajyoti Bora in presence of Punaram Mili, President of Sivasagar Sports Association, Manoj Borthakur, President of Griffon Club, Monica Saikia, leading women activist, Bharati Saikia, social worker, Manoj Bhagawati, secretary, SSA and Mrinalee Konwar, President of Sivasagar Municipality Board inaugurated the tournament.

In the inaugural match, Nagaon defeated North Lakhimpur by 5 wickets. Electing to bat first, North Lakhimpur scored only 39 runs in 16 overs. Nagoan reached the target in just 12 overs losing five wickets. Urmila Chatterjee of Nagaon, player of the match, took five wickets while Hiramoni Saikia made 12 runs. In the second match, Nalbari won the toss and made 72 in stipulated 20 overs losing 9 wickets. Nalbari got 35 extra runs. Riding on Gayatri Gurung’s 26 (4×5) Jorhat easily reached the target in 7.3 overs losing only two wickets. Gurung was declared the player of the match.
