Guwahati Sports Association-North East United FC to start age group football competition jointly

To promote soccer at the grass root level Guwahati Sports Association today signed a MoU with North East United FC to start age group football competition in the city.

GUWAHATI: To promote soccer at the grass root level Guwahati Sports Association today signed a MoU with North East United FC to start age group football competition in the city. The event was held at the Gauhati Town Club auditorium in presence of key officials of both the organizations.

Addressing the media, the secretary of the Guwahati Sports Association Devajit Saikia said, “We are going to introduce age group football competition among the teams in the city. North East United FC will associate with us and will provide necessary help to conduct the competitions. The tournament will be held in various age group levels starting from U-7 to U-17 and teams from local clubs, academies and schools will be allowed to participate in it.”

The programme was also attended by president of the Guwahati Sports Association Paresh Chandra Das, CEO of NorthEast United FC Mandar Tamhane, Chief Coach Juan Pedro Benali, Assistant Coach Naushad Musa, players Parthib Gogoi and Gaurav Bora, along with former shuttler and top official of Oil India Limited Madhurya Barua and others.

Lauding the initiative took by Guwahati Sports Association to introduce the age group football competition the NorthEast United FC CEO Mandar Tamhane said, “ It is our responsibility to guide real talents of this region and we are always ready to do it.”

He also hinted that talented players of Guwahati, who would be spotted through this age group competition, may be picked up by NEUFC for their team.

Meanwhile Guwahati Sports Association will soon introduce two new competitions-Guwahati Premier League Football and Pride’s Cup Cricket Championship. In the football competition 16 teams, 14 of them office clubs, will be seen in action and total cash awards for the championship is Rs 30 lakh. Guwahati Premier League Football will kick off on December 1 and will be held at the Judges Field. On the other hand Amingaon Cricket Ground will be the venue for 8-team Pride’s Cup Cricket whose date will be announced soon.

The logos of all three competitions and jersey of Youth Football were also launched today at the same function.
