GUWAHATI: Captain of Indian cricket team Virat Kohli today strongly opposed against 4-day Test which ICC is planning to introduce from the next Future Tours Programme which will begin in 2023.
Talking to the media person during the official media conference here today Team India captain said, “Five-Day Test matches are the highest of test you can have at the international level. I feel the format shouldn’t be changed.”
He also said, “Test cricket is already commercialized through Day-night Test and no more change is required.”
The move by ICC is already opposed by several cricketers from the different parts of the world. Virat now joined them in this list. Captain, who appeared in 84 Tests for Team India, felt that reducing a day from the traditional five-day format would invite more problems to the Test Cricket. In the future people will suggest three-day Tests and then one can speak of complete removal of Test cricket.
Virat is also not in favor of introducing a new format in cricket. “Earlier I was asked about the 100-ball format and I told that I am not going to try myself out in it because there’s already so much going on,” said Kohli.
Meanwhile, Kohli, today said he is happy with the security arrangements in Guwahati. “The city is absolutely safe. We haven't seen any problems on the roads,” Guwahati along with other parts of the state recently witnessed huge protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act and once there was a question mark on this game too.
