GUWAHATI: The Junior National Women's Football Championship will kick off tomorrow in the city. Opening day of the competition will witness four games two of which will be held at the SAI Sports complex and the other two at the LNIPE, Sonapur.

The Assam Football Association today announced that the opening ceremony of the competition will be held at the Tarun Ram Phukan Indoor Stadium tomorrow at 12 PM. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will attend the function as the chief guest.

Addressing a media gathering the president of the Assam Football Association Naba Doley said, "Earlier we have planned to organize the inaugural ceremony at the Nehru Stadium but keeping in mind the present weather condition in the city we have decided to shift the venue at the Deshbhakta Tarun Ram Phukan indoor stadium."

Meanwhile three teams from the North East will not be part of this edition of the championship. They were not able to travel to Guwahati as inclement weather snapped the road connectivity. The secretary of the Assam Football Association Hemendra Nath Brahma said, "We received communication from Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland in this regard and they will not be a part of this competition."

With the withdrawal of Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland the number of participating teams in the tournament reduced to 31.

Commenting on the inaugural function Brahma said, "Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will attend the function as the chief guest. Speaker of Assam Legislative Assembly Biswajit Daimary will also grace the occasion. The event will start at 12-00 PM."

Competition, however, will kick off before the opening ceremony. In the inaugural match at SAI Complex Telengana will face Delhi from 9-00 AM and in the second game at the same venue Bihar will take on Meghalaya from 1-00 PM. However the kick-off timing of the second game is likely to be changed due to the opening ceremony.
