Junior Women's National Football Teams to arrive in city from tomorrow

GUWAHATI: Participating teams for the forthcoming Junior Women's National Football Championship will start to arrive in the city from Wednesday. The competition will kick off on June 18.

Informing the news during a media briefing the president of the Assam Football Association Naba Doley said, "Preparations are on the right track and the Assam Football Association is ready to welcome all the participants who will take part in the competition."

This time altogether 34 teams, including host Assam, will compete in the championship whose final is slated for July 4. The matches of the competition will be held in five different venues which included Nehru Stadium, Indira Gandhi Athletics Stadium, SAI Sports complex, LNIPE at Sonapur and Dimakuchi. Host Assam will play their group stage matches at Dimakuchi.

As per the schedule Indira Gandhi Athletics Stadium, apart from group matches, will also host two quarter finals, two semi finals and the final. LNIPE will host the other two quarter finals and group league matches. Remaining three grounds will host only group matches.

Talking about the preparation of the State team Doley said, "The preparatory camp is going on at Dimakuchi and there are at present 65 footballers. The final team will be selected tomorrow."

Assam are placed in group 'G' with Poducherry, Gujarat and Harayana. The Hosts will start their campaign on June 21 against Poducherry. There next two league matches will be held on June 23 vs Gujarat and June 25 vs Haryana

The media briefing was also attended by the secretary of the Assam Football Association Hemen Brahma, the secretary of the Assam Olympic Association Lakhya Konwar and Director of the Sports and Youth Welfare Nibedan Das Patowary. Assam Football Association today lauded the State government for their help to organize the championship. Brahma said, "State government, led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, has given us huge support and it make our job very easy."
