Kamal Goyary elected as new president of AABA

The new executive committee of the Assam Amateur Boxing Association (AABA) was constituted during its Annual General Meeting held in the city today.

GUWAHATI: The new executive committee of the Assam Amateur Boxing Association (AABA) was constituted during its Annual General Meeting held in the city today. Kamal Chandra Goyary was elected as the new president of the association while Sankar Pradhan retained the treasurer post. Hemanta Kalita was earlier elected as the secretary uncontested.

Although the meeting was scheduled to be held on Sunday last but had to be deferred due to some legal wrangling. The treasurer of the Boxing Federation of India Digbijoy Singh and the Joint Secretary of the Assam Olympic Association Bhabajyoti Goswami attended the meeting as observers of respective associations.

Election was held for five posts- president, treasurer, vice president, joint secretary and organizing secretary- and altogether 51 votes were casted today. Goyary received 42 votes on way to become the new president of the organization. Outgoing president Kalikanta Boro and former Director of Sports Authority of India (NE Region) Subhash Basumatari were the other two candidates for the president post. On the other hand Sankar Pradhan received 30 votes.

The other elected members- Vice president: Rajen Denial (48), Mridul Buragohain (45), Khalid Hussain (39), Robin Tumung (39) and Wazir Bin Qutub (38).

Joint secretary: Anjan Borthakur (42), Ashok Baruah (38).

Organizing secretary: Bipul Kumar Boro (48), Gopal Thapa (48), Apledu Kapoo (47), Binay Thapa (46), Inamul Hussain (46), Manash Kumar Nath (45), Ranjit Barman (45), Jayanta Das (44) and Anjar Hussain (43).
