Assam Boy Lavanish Phukan Shines In International Open Karate Championship

Lavanish Phukan, a student of class X enrolled in Crescent Academy Educational Institution, Jorhat, clinched two medals including one gold in the 1st International Open Karate Championship.

GUWAHATI: Assam lad Lavanish Phukan, a student of class X enrolled in Crescent Academy Educational Institution, Jorhat, clinched two medals including one gold in the 1st International Open Karate Championship held in Kathmandu on Tuesday.

He bagged gold medal in Kata while securing a bronze medal in Kumite event.

Meanwhile, earlier last month, four players, who hail from Lakhimpur district, had brought laurels to the State by winning two gold medals and two bronze medals in the 46th International Karate Championships while representing India.

Kunal Roy, Riya Rani Saikia, Dubori Dutta and Ghreetam Bhuiyan are the players who had achieved this incredible feat.

The championship was organized by national committee of Japan Shotokan Karate Association India.

Kunal Roy and Riya Rani Saikia won gold medal in kumite event while Dubori Dutta and Ghreetam Bhuiyan grabbed bronze medals in kumite event. All four players are the members of the Japan Shotokan Karate Association of Assam.
