Shillong: Meghalaya required another 212 runs with seven wickets in hand to beat Bihar in their U-19 Cooch Behar Trophy match in Tezpur.

Resuming their first innings on 34/0 today, the third day, Meghalaya were bowled out for 136 in response to Bihar’s first innings score of 258. Hrithik Sharma was the top scorer with 37 for Meghalaya.

Leading by 122 runs, Bihar would have looked to set an impossible target for Meghalaya, but the latter’s bowlers struck hard, with the first five Bihar wickets falling for just 32 runs - four of those claimed by Abhishek Yadav (4/27) and one by Aaron Nongrum (1/22). Bipin then tore apart the lower order to finish with figures of 5/26 as Bihar were all out for 129. That set a target of 252 to win for Meghalaya and they were 40/3 at stumps.

Meanwhile, in the U-23 Col CK Nayudu Trophy, Meghalaya were dismissed by Mizoram for 314 in their first innings after resuming on 287/6 in the morning.

In response Mizoram were under pressure early on, with Elchiang Ch Momin (1/41) taking the first wicket in the eighth over and there were two further early wickets for Kishan (3/37), putting Mizoram on 42/3.

However, Mizoram’s middle order fought back to end the day on 270/6. Asif was motoring along before he became Kishan’s third wicket of the day, dismissed for 91. Anish Charak (1/27) and Adarsh Joshi (1/53) were the other Meghalaya wicket-takers.
