NE Media Cricket Champions Trophy begins, Easy wins for Doordarshan Assam, ND 24

GUWAHATI: The 4th North East Media Cricket Champions Trophy, organized by Evergreen Group, kicked off at Judges’ Field on Thursday.

On Day 1, Doordarshan Assam thrashed DA News Plus by 9 wickets while ND 24 outplayed GL Publication by 8 wickets.

In the opening ceremony, Dr Bishnu Das, Deputy Medical Superintendent of Health City Hospital, renowned writer Jayanta Madhab Das, sports organizer Kalyan Kumar Das, Senior Journalists Pronay Bordoloi, Uday Borgohain, Executive Editor of Asomiya Khobor Biswajit Das were present.

Electing to bat first, DA News Plus were bundled out for 85 runs in 19 overs. Captain Kamalesh Barman and Nipon Medhi contributed 21 runs each. Gauranga Gogoi (3/5) and Anup Bhutta took three wickets each. Doordarshan Assam reached the target in just 8.4 overs losing one wicket. Anuj Basfore hit 34 runs while Palash Kumar Roy added 30. Gauranga was adjudged as the Man of the Match.

In the second match of the day, after invited to bat first, GL Publication failed to caputalize the advantage and could managed only 67 runs in 17.1 overs against the last year runner-up team. Spinner Ranjit Changmai was the pick of the bowlers who claimed 5 wickets for 12 runs. ND 24 needed only 5 overs to reach the modest target by loosing Ranjit’s (25) wicket who was as the Man of the Match.

Altogether 12 teams are particating in the tournament including Shillong Press Club, Barak Valley Press Club and Diphu Press Club.
