GUWAHATI: In an unprecedented move, all 68 candidates, who submitted nomination papers for the forthcoming election of the Assam Olympic Association (AOA), is likely to withdraw their papers tomorrow. There is a possibility that Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, who has already been elected unopposed as the president of the AOA, will be requested to take the responsibility to constitute the new committee of the association.

Although the reason behind this new development is still not clear, few candidates, who filed the nomination papers earlier today, admitted to the report.

“Yes. It is possibly going in that direction. Most of the candidates, who have submitted nomination papers earlier, felt that in the recent past, the committees of the Assam Olympic Association were constituted without an election and it should be also the same this time around. It is because of this, we are requesting the Chief Minister to take the responsibility to constitute the new committee as he has been already elected as the president of the association,” said a candidate on condition of anonymity.

He, however, refused to make any comment on whether there is any pressure from other quarters in this entire development.
