GUWAHATI: Indian Super League (ISL) outfit NorthEast United FC have on Wednesday confirmed the signing of Ghanaian centre-forward Kwesi Appiah..

The former Crystal Palace striker has a lot of experience of playing in England's top divisions, and comes to India after featuring for English Championship side AFC Wimbledon for whom he scored 4 goals each in the last two seasons.

The 30-year-old is a product of the Ebsfleet United youth system in England, and has also represented clubs like Reading, Peterborough United and Cambridge United amongst others in his 12 year career.

NorthEast United's Executive Director Priya Runchal is optimistic that Appiah will be a huge asset for the side given his experience in England. In a release she said,"He has had memorable stints at various clubs during his career and we are excited about the quality he will bring to the team."

Appiah himself sounded really happy about the move and the prospect of playing in India. "I have heard a lot of good things about this league and the team from my fellow compatriots and it is an honour to represent this great region in one of the fastest growing leagues in the world," he stated. Appiah has represented his country 7 times and scored twice. His physical presence and experience at the top level can turn out to be major weapons for the Highlanders' coach Gerard Nus. Having already grabbed VP Suhair from ATK Mohun Bagan, and with Khassa Camara to call upon, the purchase of Appiah makes the North East forward line look all the more complete.
