Numaligarh: The 27th PSPB inter-unit Carrom Tournament, organized by Numaligarh Refinery Limited, concluded on Friday evening. A total of five PSU units viz. IOCL, ONGC, HPCL, MRPL, and NRL participated in the meet.
As per information received from the Organizing Secretary of the event Pronita Deka, who is also the sports co-ordinator of Numaligarh Refinery Limited, many players of national and International repute participated in the tournament. One time World championship winner and one-time runner up Yogesh Udaybhan Pardeshi of IOCL, who has 57 gold medals, 10 silver and 9 bronze medals to his credit also participated in the tournament along with Rashmi Kumari of ONGC, two times world champion and two times world cup winner.
As informed by the president of the organizing committee, Nalini Kanta Buragohain, the tournament witnessed a very strong competition in all the levels of both male and female categories. The highly warmed single, double events were a true learning experience for the local players.
President of the Assam Carrom Federation and MLA Rockybul Hussain, Member Secretary of PSPB Arif Akhtar along with other dignitaries were present in the closing ceremony.
As per the results declared by the event organizers, K. Srinivas of IOCL won the Men’s single category, M. Parimala Devi of IOCL won the Women’s single category. In the Men’s double category, K. Srinivas and Md Gufran of IOCL topped. While Kajal Kumari and K. Nagajyothi of IOCL topped the women’s double category, in the Men’s team championship category Y. Pardeshi, K. Ramesh Babu, Md. Gufran and K. Srinivas of IOCL lifted the title. K. Kumari, K. Nagajyothi, Tuba and Parimala has won the women’s team championship. IOCL topped among all the five PSU units to get the highest number of championship awards in all the categories.
