Ranji Trophy campaign of Assam begins today

GUWAHATI: Assam will start their Ranji Trophy campaign this season with the match against Chhattisgarh tomorrow. The match will be held at Shaeed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium, Raipur.

Assam are placed in Elite Group B along with Bengal, Andhra, Mumbai, Kerala, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. The Assam team, led by Riyan Parag, reached Raipur on Tuesday and also made their work out on Wednesday and Thursday respectively.

Last time both the teams faced each other in a Ranji Trophy tie was in the 2019-20 season and the game was held at the ACA Stadium, Barsapara. The match witnessed three centuries and one of them came from the bat of Gokul Sharma. Rishav Das missed the three-figure score by a single run.

Meanwhile several cricketers of Assam are on the verge to touch individual milestones this season. Captain Riyan Parag needs one wicket to complete 50-wicket in first class cricket. Pacer Mukhtar Hussain needs 12 victims to reach the 100-wicket club. Two batters Rahul Hazarika and Swarupam Purkayastha require 62 and 52 runs to complete 1000 and 2000 first class runs respectively.
