GUWAHATI: Rode on a spectacular show from the pacers Arup Das and Ranjeet Mali Assam took full control in the Ranji Trophy tie against Maharashtra at the ACA stadium, Barsapara here today.
Invited to bat first Maharashtra lost wickets on a regular interval and once they were 62-7. Most of the batsmen of the visiting side struggled to face Arup and Ranjeet. A Bawane (75) and S Bachhav (40 ) put little resistance and which made the total little respectable. The visitors were bundled out for 175 in 43.4 overs. S Gugale (25) was the other batsman who scored double-digit runs in the first innings.
Pacer Arup picked up 4-66 and Ranjeet Mali finished 4-55. The third pacer of the team Mukhtar Hussain picked up the remaining two wickets giving away 23 runs.
Assam got the opportunity to bat 29 overs, scored 77-1 in their first innings. Subham Mandal and Rishav Das remained not out 31 and 33 runs respectively. The host lost the only wicket in the form of opener Rahul Hazarika (6).
Meanwhile at Mangaldoi Meghalaya are at drivers’ seats against Manipur. Invited to bat first, Meghalaya bowled out 235 runs in the first innings. Ravi Teja (90) and Punit Bisht (66) scored half-centuries. Manipur were 18-7 in their first innings at stumps on day I. Five batsmen failed to open their account.
