Guwahati: After long COVID-19 break Assam players made good start in the season by registering two wins in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T-20 Cricket in Kolkata recently. The side beat two heavyweights in the competition-Hyderabad and Bengal- in their five group league games. Apart from captain Riyan Parag there were a few players who were able to show consistency in the meet and one of them was pacer Pritam Das. In a conversation with The Sentinel the pacer shared his experience in the recently concluded meet and his views about the future of the new look State team which comprised of several talented junior players. Here is the excerpt.

The Sentinel (TS): Perhaps happy with your performance!

Pritam: To some extent yes. I went to Kolkata with an aim to perform well and to help my team with the ball. I've 10 wickets in my kitty. A few more would've make me contented.

TS: You returned into the ground after a long COVID break….

Pritam: Yes. Actually I began training once the relaxation on Covid-19 started in the State. Initially I worked on fitness and later worked on the net. I was in the game mentally and so it didn't take too much time get back into the rhythm after I attended the fitness camp organized by the Assam Cricket Association.

TS: You are now one of the senior most cricketers in the team. Any pressure?

Pritam: Not at all. I love to bowl and the work remains same for me. Yes, you can say that I have to take a little responsibility and this is to guide our young pacers in the team. I am ready to do it.

TS: Current Assam team is considered as the future of State cricket. Your comment.

Pritam: It's true. We have many talented cricketers and all of them are capable to serve the team for a long period. What now they need is to gather little experience on how to handle the difficult situation and strong opponent in the ground.
