Regional Equestrian League concludes at Dibrugarh

Dibrugarh: The Regional Equestrian League (REL) which got underway on Sunday, concluded on Tuesday, witnessed keen competition in all the events. The highlights for the meet were the Jumping and Dressage events which saw stiff and close competition between participants. While Dressage open was won by Hav. Mujibur Rahman of Assam Police astride Anderson, the silver was won by Arman Ashraff of The Assam Valley School and Bronze was won by Akansha Baruah of DPS Numaligarh.

The REL events in the Junior category was won by Arman Imdad in Dressage and Angad Singh Sekhon in Jumping. The most keenly contested The Open Jumping competition was won by Hav. Lakhbir Singh of Assam Rifle, while Rifleman Sunil also of Assam Rifle was placed second and the Bronze medal was taken by Abdullah Imdad of Assam Valley School. The other exciting event of the meet was Jumping Fault and out, which was won by Hav Lakhbir Singh of Assam Rifle while the second and third position went to Nummeir Ahmed of Equestrian Federation of Assam and Rifleman Sunil of Assam Rifle respectively.

It was for the first time in the region that a Farriery competition was organised as part of the meet. Farriery or the art of shoeing horses is an integral part of Equestrianism and much depends on the skill of the farriers to make the horses competition worthy. Farriers from Assam Rifles, Assam Police, ITBP, schools and EFA participated in the event, which was won by Hav Mahender Singh of ITBP.

The closing function held on Tuesday was graced by Deputy Commissioner, Dibrugarh, Pallab Gopal Jha, Superintendent of the Police, Subhashini Sankaran, and DIG Assam Rifles, Brig. S. Saul, SM. who gave away the prizes to the winners. Dr Siddhartha Sharma, Regional Member North East, Equestrian Federation of India, expressed his satisfaction that in spite of the very challenging situation arising out of inclement weather the completion was successfully concluded due to the efforts of the organising committee and visiting Technical officials.
