Silchar lift Nuruddin Trophy defeating Biswanath Chariali by 10 wickets

GUWAHATI: Silchar lifted Nuruddin Senior Inter District Cricket Tournament title defeating Biswanath Chariali by 10 wickets in the final at the ACA Stadium, Barsapara here today. It was the second occasion when Silchar won the title. Earlier they lifted the coveted trophy in 2008.

The 4-day final didn't last even two and half days as the batting of Biswanath Chariali were not up to the mark in both the innings. The side scored 122 runs in the first innings and 140 in the second. Biswanath started from their overnight score 90-4 in the morning and lost the first wicket when the score was 94. Thereafter the contest was totally one sided. They lost their next four wickets on the way to add just 22 runs. However a 26-run partnership between Asarjo Ganthal and Mintu Kumar Roy in the last wicket made the total a little respectable. In the second innings Ram Das came out with a brilliant performance with the ball and picked up five wickets giving away only 15 runs. Rahul Singh, adjudged man of the final, bagged 3-36.

Silchar required 40 runs to win the tie and they reached the target in 29 balls without losing a wicket. Abhisekh Thakuri and Subham Mandal remained not out on 25 and 16 runs respectively.

The president of the Assam Cricket Association Romen Dutta and other officials of the association attended the closing ceremony. Bikash Kurmi of Biswanath Chariali (369 runs) adjudged the best batsman of the tournament award. Rahul Singh of Silchar, who bagged 43 wickets, collected the best bowler award.
