GUWAHATI: Sports Authority of Assam conducted a webinar today on "Making Guwahati the Sports Capital of India-Road Ahead".
The aim of the webinar was to discuss the steps which need to be taken to fulfill the Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal's dream of making Guwahati the Sports capital of India.
Director General of Sports Authority of Assam Onkar Kedia welcomed the panelists and spoke about the ways in which Guwahati can become the Sports Capital of India. The speakers on the occasion were Biswajit Pegu, Deputy Commissioner, Kamrup(M), Subhash Basumatary, Director, SAI (Regional Centre, Guwahati), K Singson, General Secretary, Northeast Frontier Railways Sports Association (NFRSA), Madhurjya Barua, International Badminton Player and Ravi Shankar Ravi, Chief Editor, Dainik Purvoday.
The Speakers emphasised the need to organize more competitions in Guwahati, identification and nurturing of talent at the grassroots level across the State, involvement of common people with sports, focus on school-level sports activity, activation and involvement of sports clubs, opportunity for school children to train in the morning session, involvement of ex-players, combination of skills with sports, etc.
